Thinking about learning a bit about nature or doing a homeschool unit on Maryland wildlife or a homeschool unit on being green? Then you may want to check out the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center’s Abingdon, Maryland location. If you are exploring on your own, the trip is completely free. However, there are some really nice programs for between $3 and $10 that sound like a ton of fun. (Several photography programs geared toward teens and adults are $25, which is still a bargain, as I hear that the instructor is excellent.)

We spent about an hour exploring the center’s learning area, which has interactive exhibits on the Chesapeake Bay area, a turtle habitat and a few other critters, crafts and activities, etc. in it. Then, we checked out an activity bag and went hiking. The trails were easy enough for a five year old to explore without difficulty, but wouldn’t be suitable for a stroller since there are several sets of steps.
