This Week’s Shopping Trip Under $50

I haven’t written about the $50 grocery challenge for awhile now and decided it was time to resurrect it. Now, this week, I’m showing you how you can get a lot of groceries for $50 without having any coupons. (Not on purpose. I forgot my coupon organizer!)
So, I started with Walgreen’s. Although I did have $11.82 in RR on a gift card because my Walgreen’s RR machine was broken, I’m going to consider it to be cash and will include it in my $50 total.
I got a package of dried fruit, two bottles of store brand Vitamin D, 2 clearanced boxes of shortbread cookies and a clearanced pack of Tictacs for a total of $11.17 and I earned an 85 cent credit from the store brand Vitamin D on my W card.
With a bit over $38 left in my budget, I headed to ShopRite. There, I spend $27.02 and got:
12 pack Marcal towels for $5.99 (For puppy messes. I use rags for most spills and messes.)
4 bottles of root beer for $3.
1 1/2 lbs ground turkey for $2.63
2 big containers of yogurt $4.40 (My brother’s new lunch kick.)
3 8 oz. packages of cheese $4.50
8 oz package of shredded cheese $1.98
Dozen eggs $1.19
Gallon of milk $2.99
$13 left. I stopped by my local mission center, where there was a ton of bread on a rack with a donation jar beside it. They must have gotten a whole truck of bread, because they had a sign up asking people to take all the bread they wanted. I got 6 loaves to split with a few other people.
$8 left. I think I’ll head to the packing plant this week for a big box of apples. They call them seconds, but they are really good.
Now, keep in mind, I shop like this all the time, so last week I shopped heavily for meat and juice and have enough for this week, too. If you are just starting out or restarting the challenge, you may need another $10 or so a week for stock up food until you get the hang of it.
So how did you do on your shopping trip this week?
